On 1971-1979 air-cooled VWs running a 12 volt system, a little square relay behind the dash makes your turn signals and 4-way flashers actually flash. It takes steady current and chops it into that familiar rhythmic click, and it also drives the indicator on your dash so you know the signals outside are doing their job. When it fails, your signals either stay on solid or don’t light at all, or only the dash light glows with no blink. This 3 prong relay is a direct fit replacement for OE #111-953-227D, with the same 30mm square body, integrated mounting tab, and standard flat blade terminals, so it plugs right in where the old one came out. Rated for 2/4 x 21W loads, it handles both turn signals and hazards with stock incandescent bulbs and brings back the proper blink rate your VW had when it left the factory.
