The 1953-1962 Large Copper Washers mount at end of master cylinder then the brass block, small copper washers, then special bolt to hold all in place and allow fluid to pass through to brake line. All of these parts are necessary for 1953-1962 brakes to work. If all are installed and properly tightened, your brakes will work as designed.
