The oxygen sensor measures the amount of oxygen in the exhaust gasses that exit your Corvette's engine. It sends real-time data about the amount of unburnt oxygen in the exhaust system to the engine's computer to determine the correct air-to-fuel ratio. Many symptoms can indicate a failing O2 sensor such as the check engine light, noticeable loss of fuel efficiency, sulfuric "rotten egg" smell from the exhaust, black exhaust smoke, high emissions levels, and even hesitation and power surges from the engine.
