The neutral safety switch is an often overlooked component that can cause a lot of headaches with your Corvette when it fails. This switch is designed to allow you to start your C1 in park or neutral only and this 1954-1960 Neutral Safety Switch Rod allows the switch to perform this function. If you can only start your engine by jiggling your shifter or can't start it all, it's time to inspect this switch! Odds are, the rod or switch itself have become loose or are failing and are not making the proper connection.
If this rod doesn't appear to be the issue, one way to test for a faulty neutral safety switch is by applying your brakes, turning the ignition to start, and moving through each gear position to see if it is able to crank in any of them. If it works differently than expected, it's most likely a neutral safety switch problem.
