Our Air Cooled VW Transaxle Mount is a direct fit reproduction for your Volkswagen.
If your VW Engine has excessive rocking movement or vibration while driving and going through the gears, your transaxle mounts may well be shot and need to be replaced. Bad transaxle mounts can also be a contributor to poor shifter response and cause a jumpy clutch engagement.
Tech Note: The engine must be removed from the car. Then it's just a matter of supporting the transaxle and removing the four small mounting bolts, two on each side of the transaxle bell. Then the two large bolts at the ends of the U-shaped cradle are removed so that the mounting bracket and the mounts themselves can be removed. The new bracket and mounts are then installed in place of the old ones, the four mounting bolts (two on each side) are replaced, and the two large (27mm) bolts are replaced and torqued to 165 ft-lbs. This is an overview of the process to change out the the transaxle mounts. We recommend a VW Service Manual for all of the proper techniques and requirements.
