This Speedometer Cable connects to the wheel bearing cap and spins with the wheel telling the speedometer how fast you are going.
Tech Note: Speedometer cables can break for a variety of reasons. If your is broke, it may mean that your speedometer head is frozen or has a bad spot that makes it stick temporarily. Before installing the new cable, attach it into the speedometer head and turn it by hand. It should spin without binding. Another reason for a cable to break is incorrect routing or kinking the cable while installing it. After routing the cable and prior to attaching to wheel hub, spin the cable by hand. It should spin with no binding. If it is difficult to spin you may have routed it incorrectly which will damage the cable. We recommend replacing the Speedometer Spindle Grommet and the Speedometer Body Grommet to make sure your cable stays routed and aligned properly. Lube the grommets before installing them.
