Some 1961 and earlier cars with 28mm pitman arm shafts will have to change to the later model 24mm shaft pitman arm. Most VW Steering Boxes are tight when first installed but will loosen up a bit after a couple hundred miles.
Is your Vintage Volkswagen's steering system in need of some TLC? A great place to begin is this OEM Quality 1950-1977 Steering Gear Box. You can replace the ball joints and tie-rod ends, but if your steering gear box is worn, the loose and wandering steering will remain.
- Does not work on Super Beetle
- Comes with assembly lubrication only, requires 90 weight hypoid gear oil
- Made in Brazil
TECH TIP: How to diagnose your worn steering gear box: With the vehicle sitting on the ground, pinch the steering wheel between your thumb and index finger and turn the wheel lightly in both directions. The freeplay should not exceed 25mm or 1 inch, measured at the wheel rim.
