A smoother ride for your Beetle or Karmann Ghia is easy with this 1949-1965 Narrowed Width Front King Pin Torsion Spring! This torsion spring is designed to be compatible with VWs that have had narrowed front axle beams installed and consists of 6 leaves and will fit the upper or lower position. It is recommended to replace both the upper and lower when replacing your springs. If one spring is weak it will quickly wear out the stronger one.
The upper or lower torsion spring has 6 layers of leaves with 8 leaves in total. The top leaf and bottom leaf are actually two narrower pieces, with the center 4 leaves being full width. Each individual spring set has three correct drilled detents 18 inches apart (center to center) to accept securing grub screw lock.
The torsion springs are designed to hold the front end of your VW up off of the ground. Each spring is held in the front axle beam and the trailing arms attach to them. As the trailing arms travel up and down, the springs inside the axle beam twist to allow the suspension to move and twist or "spring" back into place.
Installation Note: Make sure to adequate grease spring before inserting in axle tube.
