1972-1973 Paint Code Decal L-96B Alaska Blue Metallic

Complete your Air-Cooled VW restoration with the correct decal for your original or new paint job. Paint Code decals are located in the trunk of your Volkswagen and in most cases have become missing over the years. Decal is L-96B (78) Alaska Blue Metallic and this color was used on the 1973 Type 3 and 1972-1973 Karmann Ghia. VW Code 78.

  • 1973 Type 3
  • 1972-1973 Karmann Ghia

Tech Note: Volkswagen used a variety of colors for specific years and specific models. VW also used colors for certain US models and certain European models. For instance, a Convertible Beetle in the US would of had a color option specific to the model and the European Beetle would of offered it on the Sedan. A specific US color option would of had the potential to be used differently in Europe.

Metallic Note: Original Paint Decals starting for the 1972 model year had DIAMANT - Zweischict above the paint code. This translates into Diamond Double Coat or "Two Layer", which is a Base Coat with a Clear Coat Paint. This was a fairly new method for Volkswagen on Metallic Paint Colors.

Helpful Hint: Over the years, your Volkswagen may have the rare opportunity to have kept its original paint job, but in most cases rust is dominating or a different color has covered the original. When restoring your Volkswagen, some details stand out above others and correct decals can help you bring the trophy back home from shows.
